Disability Rights California

The mission of this private/non-profit legal organization is to advance the rights of Californians with disabilities. Some of the services they provide are:

  • Telling people with disabilities about their many legal, civil, and service rights,
  • Provide technical assistance, training, publications, and advocacy support for Californians with disabilities, their families, and representatives,
  • Advocate to make sure that laws benefit Californians with disabilities,
  • Investigate complaints about serious physical or sexual abuse and neglect-related deaths in institutions,
  • Outreach to traditionally underserved ethnic and disability communities,
  • Provide peer self-advocacy services for people with psychiatric or developmental disabilities,
  • Provide patients’ rights advocacy for state psychiatric hospital residents, and technical assistance and training for county advocates,
  • Provide rights advocacy for clients with developmental disabilities who are receiving services at regional centers,
  • Bring impact litigation and act as amicus curiae in disability- related cases, and
  • Represent individuals based on our priorities and case selection criteria.

The Office of Clients’ Rights Advocacy is part of Disability Rights California, providing advocacy services to regional center consumers, their families and interested community members. OCRA can hel with legal problems, conduct trainings and investigate denials of rights.
